FRCA Curriculum

The Final FRCA exam curriculum doesn’t exist as a separate document. Instead, any of the competencies which have been denoted “E” in the training curriculum for both basic and intermediate training can be assessed in any component of the Final FRCA.

This obviously causes a dilemma: what should be studied, and in what level of detail.

This section of the website contains every curriculum competence code which is marked with an “E” in the most recent (v1.7, August 2016) versions of the basic and intermediate training curricula. I have broken them down into sections, and rearranged the codes so that the basic and intermediate codes which relate to the same topic are close to each other in the lists.

As to the level of detail – this is based purely on my experience of the exam, the detail presented in exam focused materials, attendance at courses, and discussions with examiners. It is likely I have misjudged it in some areas, but I have tried to err on the side of too much rather than too little information.

The site will eventually cover the entire curriculum. At the bottom of this page you will find details of how much of the curriculum has been covered.

Finally, there is the Intensive Care Medicine question. The ICM curriculum is very different to the rest of the Anaesthesia curriculum, and this hasn’t really been taken into account for the design of the exam. There is no list of conditions you have to know about, or topics that have to be covered. I plan to cover ICM mainly through past questions.
